At Camden Opticians Group, we are delighted to offer free NHS eye tests to those who are eligible. These tests are funded by the NHS and carried out by one of our friendly and experienced optometrists at our practices. NHS eye tests include a free vision check, as well as checking for any health problems or medical issues.
NHS eye tests can help to identify any changes in your vision, allowing us to help you find the right lenses and frames to help you improve your vision moving forward. We can also check for any signs of health conditions, such as glaucoma.
If one of the groups below applies to you, you are eligible for a free NHS eye test:
- You are under the age of 16
- You are 16, 17 or 18 and in full-time education
- You are 60 or over
- You are over 40 and a close relative, such as mother, father, sibling or child has been diagnosed with glaucoma
- You are entitled to an NHS complex lens voucher
- You have been advised by an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) that you are at risk of glaucoma
- You have been diagnosed with glaucoma or diabetes
- You are registered as blind or partially sighted
- You are a prisoner on leave from prison
You are also entitled if you or your partner receive the following, or if you’re under the age of 20 and are the dependent of someone receiving:
- Income support
- Income-related employment and support allowance
- Income-based jobseeker’s allowance
- Pension credit guarantee credit
- Universal credit
You might also be entitled to an optical voucher for help towards the cost of your glasses or contact lenses. This includes the following groups:
- You are under 16
- You are 16, 17 or 18 and in full-time education
- You are a prisoner on leave from prison
- You are eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher
- You receive any of the above support or allowance
In some cases, you may also be eligible for a mobile sight test. This is where an optometrist can visit you at home, at a residential or care home, or at a day centre. This usually occurs due to a physical or mental illness or disability that means you cannot leave your home.
